I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts,
there can be no more hurt, only more love. ~Mother Teresa
The quote from Mother Teresa is the mantra that all rescuers live by, whether you are saving people as Mother Teresa did or rescuing animals and ultimately saving people as we do.
If you wonder about the importance of the work we do at the only no-kill shelter in our area of Southern Illinois that accepts owner surrenders, watch this video:
The only other opportunity pet owners have is to take their special friends to a high kill shelter, and as you can see that should not be an option. However, this is something that we can overcome, and we can do it if we all pull together and work together to make it happen. But it will take the efforts of all of us.
Here are some ways you can help without working at it:
I have been using the IGive.com toolbar for the past year and I’ve earned $207.38 for the Randolph County Humane Society by doing nothing more than allowing the toolbar to be live when I make purchases online. You can also earn money by using their search engine, but I don’t care for it as much as google but they recently changed it so it is exponentially better now that it is powered by Bing. Every search you make earns money for RCHS and if you click on a pay link that earns extra money many of them donate it to the shelter also. It is a passive way to earn money for an excellent charity without doing anything different except one time adding a toolbar to your browser and setting it up. You can even set it up so it gives you a 1099 at the end of the year to use for your taxes for the money that is donated. How do you like that – you literally do no work and get the benefit of the donation to take off your taxes for giving to a 501(c)3 charity.
IMPORTANT _ MUST READ: Do you know that the President of the organization, Heidi Snyder, goes in and cleans kennels at least 4 nights per week while undergoing chemo for leukemia, after working full time all week long as President of the H.S. and shelter manager, because there is no one else to do it and we can’t afford to pay anyone to take care of the cleaning of the kennels?
And she does it all for no pay. No one gets paid. And the Vice-President is almost as dedicated as the President. Please help…

There are many places where you can help the shelter without digging into your pocket by only using your fingers, your keyboard, and your time. There are also listings here where you will be able to help all animals. Please forward this page to everyone in your contact list and ask them to help our small shelter also. We work so hard to do the work we do and yet there is so much to be done, but without your help it will never happen, so please help us. We need you now more than ever. Thank you for any and all help you give to us and the animals that come through our doors.
